Thank you to everyone who joined us for our recent virtual meeting with Jordan Fox and Collin Cahill. The recording of the meeting can be found on our YouTube channel.

The session, led by Jordan Fox and Colin Cahill of InOutsource, provided an in‑depth briefing on Microsoft Purview and its role in modern data security, governance, and compliance. The presenters outlined the growing risks organizations face—especially from insider threats, negligent data handling, and the rapid expansion of generative AI. They illustrated these risks through scenarios such as a malicious insider bypassing weak controls and an employee unintentionally leaking confidential project data into ChatGPT. As Jordan noted, “users are sharing sensitive data inside their generative AI apps, and often organizations do not have adequate controls around that.”

The discussion then explored Purview’s capabilities, including data classification, labeling, DLP, insider risk management, lifecycle management, e‑discovery, and compliance assessments. Colin emphasized the flexibility of Purview’s policies and the importance of tailoring controls to organizational culture, saying many firms “start by putting the policies in place, but not enforce them… and then figure out what the right posture should be.” The meeting concluded with a broader conversation about AI governance, shadow AI, emerging tools, and the evolving skill sets required for IG and security professionals, along with audience questions about training, job evolution, and cross‑industry innovation.
